Position
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Goose Site or Designate, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Provide site-based support to site teams (including contractors) to assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety policies, programs, and procedures. Effectively communicate B2Gold Nunavut’s health and safety goals and standards across departments and contractors;
- Encourage a positive health and safety culture and provide guidance and support to supervisors and team members to promote compliance;
- Facilitate and participate in incident investigations, risk assessments, and implementation of corrective actions. Track and report on the status of ongoing investigations and corrective/preventive measures;
- Ensure HSE documents such as policies, procedures and other filing systems are periodically reviewed and updated. Review internal and external safety reports to determine areas of improvement;
- Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings as required showcasing an active safety presence on site and provide an update to the senior management team for related statistics and trend analysis to identify areas of improvement;
- Develop and implement safety audits results and report on as required; and
- Support the development and implementation of the emergency response plan regarding the current stage of the project.
Competencies and Requirements
- Ten (10) years’ experience working in a Health and Safety role or related in a remote mining environment, combined with three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity;
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety required, OR adequate experience and Gold Seal Certification considered in lieu of;
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation and Mine Rescue Certification required. Train the Trainer and Supervisor Level II or related certifications considered an asset; and
- Prior experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources and working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity required.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary for this role is $165,000.00 annually for 2184 scheduled hours in a work year.
B2Gold Nunavut offers a competitive compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills, plus a group benefits package for employees and their dependents.
Due to high occupancy during this phase of construction the successful candidates(s) may be assigned shared accommodation. In this event, the incumbent(s) will be eligible for a $40.00 per day shared accommodation allowance.
